Located just 3 miles from the centre of Watford, Lees Wood Scout and Guide Activity Centre is the perfect destination for young people to connect with the outdoors, build skills, and enjoy the magic of Scouting and Guiding in a safe, welcoming environment. Set in 67 acres of woodland and open space, Lees Wood provides a peaceful yet well-equipped space for adventure, discovery, and fun. We are a small, independent site run entirely by volunteers.

Whether you’re planning a weekend away with your Squirrel Drey, Beaver Colony or Rainbow Unit, a Pack Holiday for Cubs or Brownies, or a Scout or Guide Patrol Camp, Lees Wood offers flexible spaces and supportive volunteers to help bring your programme to life. From first-time campers to seasoned explorers, our site is designed to meet the needs of all age groups. District camps are also welcome, along with Duke of Edinburgh groups.

Lees Wood features over 7 acres of dedicated camping space, perfect for section camps and overnight stays. Our expansive 17-acre events field provides ample room for large-scale games, pioneering activities, and multi-group events.

For those seeking a more traditional or adventurous experience, we also offer secluded woodland pitches ideal for patrol camps and back-to-basics camping. The peaceful setting and natural surroundings encourage exploration and outdoor learning, making Lees Wood a popular choice for youth groups across the region. There’s a campfire circle to toast marshmallows and sing a few campfire songs and there’s even a purpose built floor fire area to practice firelighting and backwoods cooking on.

At Lees Wood, there’s no shortage of exciting activities to keep young people engaged, challenged, and having fun in the great outdoors. From high-adrenaline experiences like archery, rifle shooting, axe throwing, and junior axe throwing, to more accessible options such as suction crossbows and our popular assault course, there’s something for everyone.

For those who enjoy nature and exploration, we offer a woodland nature trail, a dedicated floor fire area for campfire cooking or storytelling, and a purpose-built orienteering course with routes available both on-site and in the nearby Whippendell Woods. Whether you’re planning a full-on programme or just a few fun sessions, Lees Wood provides a flexible range of activities that are ideal for all ages and abilities.
